The Oinkster renovation was a collaboration between FreelandBuck, 2NDWND, Dutch Press, Knowhow Shop, and of course, the Oinkster folks. In the project we combined the continual surfaces that are a hallmark of space age fast food design with the care, craft, and material presence of something handmade. We used an old technique of kerf-bending to fold 1 ½” thick oak butcher block around corners as if it cheese melted on a patty. The graphics and branding are similarly treated: laser etching is combined with UV printing on wood panels to create the menu board and the graphics bleed into the furniture as well, each custom designed stool is engraved with the Oinkster logo and promise of “Slow Fast Food”.
